ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena will host the American portion of a 24-hour global symposium exploring the intersection of ecofeminism, art and environmental justice on Friday, March 21.

The event, titled “LIVE ON EARTH! Ecofeminism and Art: A Planetary Symposium,” represents the Americas segment and will serve as the final eight-hour portion of the three-city global gathering.

The Los Angeles program features a keynote address by renowned scholar and activist Silvia Federici, who will appear via Zoom and be introduced by Ohan Breiding and Shoghig Halajian.

The symposium will be co-facilitated by Jane McFadden, art historian and ArtCenter Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies, alongside Catherine Taft, an ArtCenter faculty member, alumna and Deputy Director of The Brick.

Among the highlights will be panel discussions bringing together artists, scholars and activists focused on ecofeminism and creative resistance strategies for environmental challenges.

Mexico City-based colectivo amasijo (Collective Knead) will lead a special two-hour rooftop gathering from 12 to 2 p.m. featuring a circular procession and communal meal, described in the program as “A Circular Offering.”

The event will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at ArtCenter’s South Campus, located at 950 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena.

Additional speakers include artist and ArtCenter professor Diana Thater, art historian Jane Chin Davidson, cultural researcher Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodriguez, author Janet Sarbanes, artist and activist Leslie Labowitz-Starus, and eco-activist and author Leah Thomas.

Martina Manterola and Carmen Serra of colectivo amasijo will also participate, with more speakers yet to be announced.

The symposium is a collaborative effort between ArtCenter College of Design and The Brick, bringing together perspectives on ecofeminism through varied formats including discussions, film screenings and a closing reception.

The eight-hour Pasadena event concludes the global symposium, which spans three cities across different time zones, including Seoul, South Korea, and The Hague in the Netherlands.
