The Pasadena Museum of History hosts another one of the Artists and Craftsmen Lecture Series on Tuesday, Jan. 24, “Artists, Bohemians and Craftsmen of the Arroyo,” starting at 7 p.m.

Around the turn of the 20th century, Pasadena attracted many artists and craftsmen. The Arroyo Seco and the winding streets overlooking it were a hotbed of creative activity in the early 20th century. Eventually, the Crown City became synonymous with arts and crafts movements and artistic organizations.

In this lecture, exhibition curator and art historian Julia Long begins an illustrated two-part series about these amazing artists and their crafts.

Due to the talents of people like tilemaker Ernest Batchelder, printmaker Frances Gearhart, and architects Charles and Henry Greene, Pasadena became one of the centers of the American Arts and Crafts movement – one of only three in the country.

With the lecture, you will learn about Pasadena’s role in cultivating this movement and the people whose skills – as well as their varied interests in history and multicultural sources of inspiration – made it successful.

To purchase tickets, go to https://pasadenahistory.org/events-calendar/. Tickets are $10 to $15.

The Pasadena Museum of History is at 470 W. Walnut Street in Pasadena.
