When the sun sets over the historic Gamble House in Pasadena, something magical happens that most visitors never witness.
The Arts and Crafts masterpiece becomes what one insider calls “a little jewel box in the evening.”
“The really wonderful thing about the house is because not many people get to see it lit at night. They’re shocked at how really beautiful the light is, the depth of tone, and it really is like a little jewel box in the evening,” says Sheryl Scott, director of communications and operations at the Gamble House.
That transformation anchored “Friday Nights at The Gamble House,” an intimate series combining live music, wine tastings, and rare evening access to the architectural landmark.
Running on second and fourth Fridays from May through August, the 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. events showcased diverse acts from Sequoyah High School Studio Band to The Wiseguys Combo, culminating in a sold-out August 22 variety show.
The format encouraged lingering: guests explored the first floor with docents, sampled wine flights from West Altadena Wine + Spirits, and settled onto the lawn with blankets while Triple Beam Pizza fired up their mobile oven.
“Part of our mission is to be a community resource and to reach out to the public as part of our education and programmatic mission,” Scott explains.
Pricing reflected accessibility: members paid $35 for wine tastings or attended free, while nonmembers paid $40 with wine or $5 without. Children 12 and under attended free.
These Friday evenings offered a rare chance to experience one of Pasadena’s architectural treasures as a living space where music and community converged as daylight faded.
Friday Nights at The Gamble House concluded its season on Friday, August 22.
