In a festive initiative coinciding with its Rose Parade participation, Pasadena Humane has announced the elimination of adoption fees for dogs weighing 40 pounds or more from Dec. 19 through Dec. 31.
The shelter’s “Roses and Wet Noses” promotion, backed by the Pet Care Foundation, aims to find homes for large dogs, who currently make up the majority of the facility’s canine residents.
The timing aligns with Pasadena Humane’s upcoming appearance in the 136th Rose Parade, where their float “Welcome Home,” sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, will showcase animals adopted through Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love Program.
“With the holidays upon us, there’s no better time to give a shelter dog the gift of a forever home,” said Dia DuVernet, Pasadena Humane President and CEO. “Our hope is that all of our big dogs will be watching the Rose Parade from the comfort of their new families’ living rooms.”
The adoption package includes comprehensive veterinary care, with all animals receiving spay or neuter procedures, vaccinations, and microchipping, plus a wellness exam with a partner veterinarian and a swag bag.
Prospective adopters can view available pets online at pasadenahumane.org, with daily walk-in adoption hours from 2 to 5 p.m. or scheduled appointments between 10:30 and 1:30 p.m.
Pasadena Humane, operating since 1903, serves as more than an animal shelter, functioning as a community-supported resource center providing care throughout Greater Los Angeles, including pet food assistance, training programs, and wildlife rehabilitation.
The organization, which helped nearly 45,000 animals in 2023, also offers services ranging from an animal support call center to lost and found assistance and surrender prevention programs.
