Pasadena Humane will host a combined walking meditation and wildlife observation event on Friday, March 14, offering participants an opportunity to connect with nature while learning about local avian species. The two-hour morning session, scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m., will take place at the JPL Bridge on Explorer Road in Altadena.
The nature walk will be jointly led by Pasadena Humane wildlife staff, who are Certified California Naturalists, and Angela Woodside, an experienced wildlife biologist who spent years working with California condors.
Woodside brings substantial expertise to the event, having transitioned to volunteer roles with the LA Raptor Study and as an active member of Feminist Bird Club LA, a group creating a joyful and inclusive community by connecting people with birds, nature, and each other.
“We will discuss common birds seen in LA County, practice identifying species, and talk about the many reasons birds are admitted to the Pasadena Humane Wildlife Center for rehabilitation and how we can help mitigate those injuries and illnesses,” Pasadena Humane said in announcing the event. Organizers will also address ways participants can help mitigate avian injuries and illnesses.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own optical equipment, including cameras, scopes, and binoculars, though a limited number will be available to borrow during the event. The walk welcomes bird enthusiasts of all experience levels.
The event will also introduce participants to community science tools that enhance the birding experience. Staff will provide assistance with popular applications such as eBird, Merlin Bird ID, and iNaturalist for those interested in utilizing these digital resources.
Transportation considerations have been highlighted by organizers, who recommend carpooling, biking, or using public transportation to reach the event location. Participants are advised to look for a large Pasadena Humane van at the meeting point.
The walking meditation component promises a slow and mindful pace “to practice following your breath and being present in your body,” the Eventbrite listing for the event said. This mindfulness practice will complement the wildlife observation activities throughout the morning session.

The event represents Pasadena Humane’s ongoing commitment to wildlife education and community engagement in natural settings.
