When the last family packs up their picnic blanket July 30, South Pasadena’s summer tradition will end not with fireworks, but with children meeting live animals and learning why their survival matters.

“Wild Wonders — A Walk on the Wild Side” caps the Wonderful Wednesday series with supervised animal encounters and conservation messaging tailored to family audiences, with content adjusted by age. The free 6:00 p.m. program takes place on the Oxley Street side of Library Park.

The organization behind the event sees hands-on animal experiences as the gateway to environmental stewardship.

“Our messages not only help protect the animals and give them a safe home but it also shows kids and adults how to be better stewards for the environment,” said Kimberly Wright, co-director of Wild Wonders.

The summer-long series, sponsored by Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library, has become a weekly ritual since June 11.

Families have gathered for juggling (June 11), magic (June 18), science demonstrations (June 25), anime programming (July 2), Bubblemania (July 9), and The Sunshine Storyteller (July 16).

“Wild Wonders — A Walk on the Wild Side” will run on Wednesday, July 30 at 6:00 p.m. at Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro Street, 91030. For more call (626) 403-7330 or visit https://www.southpasadenaca.gov/Events-directory/2025-Wonderful-Wednesday-8. Tickets: Free.
