City aims to promote safe disposal of electronics and prevent identity theft
Published on Aug 17, 2024

Pasadena residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of electronic waste at a free recycling event on Saturday, August 17. The event, sponsored by the City’s Department of Public Works, will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Parking Lot I near the Rose Bowl Stadium.

The initiative aims to encourage responsible disposal of electronics and prevent harmful materials from entering landfills. Accepted items include computers, printers, televisions, stereos, and various other electronic devices, as well as household batteries and fluorescent and LED light bulbs.

In addition to e-waste recycling, the event will offer free paper shredding services to help residents protect themselves against identity theft. Participants can bring up to three legal-size boxes of sensitive documents, such as outdated tax returns and credit card statements, for secure destruction.

Officials advise removing documents from binders and clips before shredding. To ensure safety, only cars will be allowed to enter the event area, with no walk-ups permitted. The duration of the event is contingent upon truck capacity, organizers said.

Pasadena officials emphasized the importance of proper e-waste disposal. The city stated that e-waste items should never be disposed of in trash or recycling containers.

The event, open only to Pasadena residents, will be held at 360 North Arroyo Boulevard, near Brookside Park. Residents seeking more information can contact the Department of Public Works at (626) 744-7311 or email recycle@cityofpasadena.net.
