Cool Down With Shakespeare’s ‘The Winter’s Tale’ at Pasadena City College

College’s theater department presents challenging play as part of summer performance series
Published on Jul 2, 2024

Pasadena City College’s Performing and Communication Arts department is set to stage William Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale” at the Center for the Arts Theater. The production offers students valuable experience in theatrical performance and production.

Performances are scheduled for Thursday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, July 27 at both 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The play, known for its complex plot spanning 16 years, follows King Leontes of Sicilia as he succumbs to unfounded jealousy.

The theater department’s synopsis explains that The Winter’s Tale unfolds in scenes set sixteen years apart. Leontes becomes unreasonably jealous of his friend Polixenes and his pregnant wife, Hermione. This leads to Hermione’s arrest and the abandonment of their newborn daughter overseas. Sixteen years later, the story resumes with unexpected reunions and reconciliations.

The production serves as a practical component for several theater courses at Pasadena City College, satisfying a portion of the requirements for Theater Rehearsal and Performance, Stage Techniques, Fundamentals of Stage Lighting, and Production Workshop.

As part of ongoing health precautions, Pasadena City College strongly recommends indoor masking for attendees. If you have symptoms, you should not attend the event. If exposed to a confirmed positive Covid case in the last 10 days or recently exited isolation with resolving symptoms, masking is required at all times during the event, indoors and outdoors.

Tickets are available for general admission at $15 plus a $1.82 fee, and for students, staff, and faculty at $10 with valid identification. Sales end on July 25. Only cashless payments are accepted at events and venues.

On-campus parking is available. Daily parking permits cost $2 and can be purchased from yellow parking permit machines located throughout the main campus. Event parking is available in Student Parking Lot #5.

Pasadena City College is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Requests should be submitted at least 10 working days before the event by emailing hrgeneral@pasadena.edu or calling (626) 585-7388.
