Parson’s Nose Theater, a Pasadena institution renowned for its concise adaptations of classic works, is set to stage a readers’ theater presentation of Jean Giraudoux’s “The Madwoman of Chaillot.” Originally scheduled for January but postponed due to local fires impacting cast members, the performances are now slated for Saturday, April 26, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m.
Written in 1944 during Nazi-occupied Paris, “The Madwoman of Chaillot” is a satirical play that explores themes of greed and corruption. The narrative centers on Countess Aurelia, the eponymous “Madwoman,” who uncovers a plot by unscrupulous businessmen to drill for oil beneath the streets of Paris, threatening the city’s charm and integrity. With the aid of an eclectic group of outcasts, Aurelia devises a scheme to thwart their plans, emphasizing the power of individual activism against corporate avarice.
Parson’s Nose Theater’s adaptation is directed by Lance Davis and features a talented ensemble cast, including Mary Chalon, Marisa Chandler, Nancy Youngblut, Heather Taylor, Barry Gordon, Ivar Brogger, John Harnagel, Paul Perri, Ethan Rockwell, Jake Perri, and Lance Davis himself. The production promises to deliver the company’s hallmark approach of presenting classic theater in under 90 minutes, making it accessible and engaging for contemporary audiences.
Attendees can look forward to an intimate theatrical experience complemented by wine and the renowned Judy Graunke cookies, adding a touch of Parisian flair to the evening. Given the previous sell-out of this performance, early ticket reservations are highly recommended. Tickets are priced at $22.50 and can be purchased online for the Saturday, April 26, 7 p.m. show or the Sunday, April 27, 3 p.m. matinee. Alternatively, reservations can be made by calling 626-345-5116.
