The weekend is so close you can smell it and taste it. Smells like oodles of noodles. Which would be delicious enough, but the scent wafting from your phone in this direction is part of the wide-ranging and sumptuous menu from one of our favorite Old Pasadena eateries—Edwin Mills.
Edwin Mills has a vast lunch menu that is eclectic and inviting, but there is another great facet of this jewel. The lunch specials are $9. Nine. As in five plus four.
We could list a lot of places where $9 might buy you frenchs fries and a Coke. Nine bucks at Edwin Mills will treat you to the aforementioned Oodles of Noodles (just like it sounds), or an Old-Time Burger and some hand-cut fries, with an impressive onion ring in the middle of that burger action.
Actually, all of the lunch sandwiches come with the house fries, but it isn’t just sandwiches. Did we mention eclectic?
Mills’ also offers a pair of fish tacos (with those house fries), sweet Asian chicken with rice, a stand-alone foothill of chicken-fried rice, called Island Rice, and a basil mignon smothered in grilled onions, and served with more rice.
And just in case we didn’t mention it, there is a $3 Happy Hour drink menu , including bottled beers and mixed drinks. So there’s that.
What makes Edwin Mills so unique among local restaurants is just that quirky mix of menu items, that pairs the usual with the adventurous, and the Continental with the West Coast.
You’ll travel around the world in just a few weekends. And you’ll be just off Colorado. At Edwin Mills.
Edwin Mills is at 22 Mills Place, Pasadena, (626) 564-8656 or visit www.edwinmills.com.
