Slain Altadena teen to be honored at 11th Annual Brandon Jackson Memorial Scholarship and Basketball Classic May 3 Scholarships will be awarded to high-achieving, low-income youths and funds provided to families affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire. The 11th Annual Brandon Jackson Memorial Scholarship and Basketball Classic will take place Saturday, May 3, 2025, at John Muir High School, 1905 N. Lincoln Ave. in Pasadena. The ticket price for attendees is $15 at the door. The event is a fundraiser for the Brandon Jackson Memorial Scholarship, which was established in 2011 by youth basketball coach and former college athlete David Williams after one of his players was tragically gunned down in Altadena. Williams has now formed Empower U, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to house the program. The tournament, now open for team sign-ups, will run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a time out at 2 p.m. when Williams and special guests will present checks to the scholarship recipients as well as two families that were affected by the Eaton Canyon Fire.
