This Wednesday evening, that healing begins with African drums and Latin rhythms at Washington Park.
The inaugural “Centering Sounds” concert series launches September 10 at 5:30 p.m., featuring the Earthseed Band in a free performance designed for fire-impacted residents and the broader community.
“Join us for the kick off to our new concert series, Centering Sounds where all those impacted by the fires and the community at large gather for a twilight series of concerts in the park, creating a sense of belonging, healing and mindfulness through music,” reads the announcement from Pasadena Village.
The Earthseed Band draws inspiration from Octavia Butler.
“Earthseed is inspired by Octavia Butler’s vision of new community built out of the ruins of the old, one which affirms the value of each member in a collective emergence of unity in diversity.”
Featured performer Dwight Trible, an acclaimed jazz vocalist, has performed in healing concerts for fire-impacted communities.
“Trible has been forging his particular slant on spiritual-modal jazz for decades, delivering his love-is-the-answer message with clear diction, rich tones and a beautifully controlled vibrato,” notes the Financial Times.
The Pasadena Community Foundation has raised $72.4 million for Eaton Fire relief, disbursing $12 million to over 60 nonprofit partners, according to its July Impact Report.
