In the aftermath of devastating fires that have disrupted lives across the community, A Taste of Culture is hosting a free haircut event this weekend for individuals impacted by the tragedy. This initiative is designed to provide a vital day of self-care and relaxation for those rebuilding their homes, lives, and sense of normalcy.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 13 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Nu Wave Barbershop, located at 1290 N. Lake Avenue in Pasadena. Appointments are recommended but not required; community members can schedule by texting or calling (626) 399-2580.
“Taking a day for self-care is crucial in the midst of rebuilding after such a disaster,” said Edward Boyd, CEO of L.E.A.P. – Leaders, Educators, Alpha’s of Philander. “Our free haircut event is more than a grooming session—it’s a shared moment of community, compassion, and renewed strength. We are dedicated to helping ease the strain, reduce isolation, and support both the physical and mental well-being of everyone affected.”
The fires have left a profound impact on Pasadena residents. Many have lost their homes, jobs, and essential sources of income, including local barbers who have experienced declines in business while continuing to serve their neighbors. Beyond those directly affected, the emotional toll has extended to bereaved family members, witnesses to the event, rescue workers, volunteers, and business owners.
Recognizing that self-care plays an essential role in recovery, organizers hope this event provides attendees with an opportunity to pause, regroup, and begin their healing journey.
In addition to free haircuts, attendees can enjoy lunch, music, entertainment, and a raffle featuring movie tickets from Landmark Theaters and clothing from Fabletics. The event is co-sponsored by L.E.A.P., Becker Law Group, Singleton Schreiber, McNicholas & McNicholas, Domino’s Pizza, Skughkofey Foundation, and Creative Visions.
