Contrary to popular opinion, people in Chicago don’t necessarily prefer deep dish pizza. Travel outside the City to the suburbs and local neighborhoods, and you’ll find diners scarfing down a unique, thin-crust pizza with a sweet sauce and crust. And cut into squares.
“I got the recipe from a guy who had a small neighborhood place on the South Side of Chicago,” Executive Chef Scott Goldberg told us when we visited him Wednesday.
Many years after that recipe acquisition, Fresh Brothers, a chain created by Goldberg and his brother Adam, has now opened its first Pasadena location at Kitchen United Mix. The pizza brand now has 21 locations in Southern California, offering all-natural pizza delivery and pick-up options.
Fresh Brothers brings a California twist on traditional pizza, with a range of dietary options. From the signature thin-crust pizzas to crisp fresh salads topped with premium meats, there’s also baked chicken wings and sliders, so it ain’t just the thin crust thing.
One more thing: their super-duper turbo crazy loco oven, which they didn’t want us to film, cooked our pizza order in 4.5 minutes. You can’t even tie your shoelaces that fast. Okay, maybe you can, but you get the idea.
Fresh Bros. Pizza is in Kitchen United Mix at 55 South Madison Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101. The Pasadena shop offers pick-up and delivery orders daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (626) 817-6600. www.freshbrothers.com. Delivery is available from hungerrush.com, doordash.com, and postmates.com
