In an era of constantly evolving digital threats, businesses are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence, AI, to bolster their cybersecurity defenses. TeamLogic IT, a prominent national provider of managed IT services, is at the forefront of this trend, helping clients harness the power of AI to stay one step ahead of potential cyber threats.
“AI assists in learning about computer usage patterns and discern what is a threat and what is not,” said Justin Tsui, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) at TeamLogic IT in Pasadena. “Of course we believe human beings are the ultimate decision makers and will always need to act upon any threats AI identifies.”
One key area where AI is making a significant impact is in threat detection. Historically, cyber threats were scanned based on past detections using databases of malware signatures. However, AI-powered technology can now detect potential threats based on unusual activity and adapt to new threats in real-time.
Email security has been a major concern for businesses over the past two years, with many breaches and security threats originating from phishing emails. In addition to providing technological solutions, TeamLogic IT works closely with client organizations to provide training and raise awareness about email security best practices.
“A common method we teach is an acronym called SLAM,” Tsui explained. “It reminds email users to check for Phishing emails by looking for suspicious Senders, Links, Attachments or Messages (SLAM). If something doesn’t seem right, do not click or act upon it.”
As AI continues to evolve rapidly, TeamLogic IT stays ahead of the curve in terms of technology and knowledge. The company works closely with industry organizations such as International Information System Security Certification Consortium and Computing Technology Industry Association, and Tsui himself is required to maintain 40 units of Continuing Education Credits every year as a CISSP.
TeamLogic IT also retains the services of various industrial experts as advisors on their internal strategy for advising clients. For example, they have added an Artificial Intelligence Acceptable Use Policy (AI AUP) to their clients’ Information Security Policies for those whose policies they manage.
While AI holds great promise for enhancing cybersecurity, Tsui notes that there are some common misconceptions about the technology.
“We are in the infancy stage of AI,” he said. “Many people have not seen how AI can enhance their life. Instead we have a general fear of AI which is propagated through media, especially movies.”
Tsui emphasizes that the AI currently being used in cybersecurity is more akin to a next-generation productivity tool, rather than the science fiction depictions often seen in media. He believes that existing data privacy and security policies can largely be applied to AI tools, with some minor adjustments.
As businesses navigate the complex landscape of cybersecurity in the age of AI, partnering with experienced IT service providers like TeamLogic IT can provide the expertise and support needed to stay secure and compliant. With their proactive approach, comprehensive services, and commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements, TeamLogic IT is well-positioned to help businesses harness the power of AI while mitigating the risks posed by an ever-evolving threat landscape.
