Nonprofit Hillsides focuses on children and youth behavioral health services and foster care and adoption. It has served the region for over a century.
The organization will host its annual fundraising gala “La Dolce Vita, A Tuscan Affair” on February 22, 2025. The event supports their comprehensive programs, including residential treatment, behavioral health services, foster care, adoption, and young adult transition assistance.
Longtime supporters of Hillsides (and sisters) Joan McCarthy and Diane Hough will co-chair the evening. During a recent trip to Italy celebrating their 40th wedding anniversaries with their husbands, they became enchanted by Italy’s breathtaking beauty, warm hospitality, and rich history, which left an indelible mark on their hearts.
At Hillsides, caring teams nurture children, youth, and families through a journey from trauma toward a beautiful life ahead.
“We are pleased to serve as your Gala Co-Chairs this year to honor Hillsides’ great work and the beautiful life it creates for our community. It is our hope that La Dolce Vita will fill your heart as you learn more about Hillsides and celebrate the simple joys that make life truly beautiful — art, culture, good food, fine wine, and most importantly, family.”
The evening promises to be an impactful event where community members, allies, and advocates gather to celebrate Hillsides’ mission of healing children and empowering families. The program includes a cocktail reception, silent auction, fine dining experience, and special musical performances. A guest speaker whose life was touched by Hillsides will share their story, and Fritz Coleman, a longtime friend of the organization, will host the live auction.
The gala organizers chose “La Dolce Vita” theme — “the sweet life” — which for Italians and many around the world represents more than a way of life. It’s a philosophy about living passionately and embracing life’s beauty, reflecting Hillsides’ goal of helping clients overcome challenges to build fulfilling lives.
Beyond immediate care, Hillsides provides comprehensive community-based services throughout Greater Los Angeles, including residential treatment, foster care and adoption support, and extensive young adult programs. These services include transitional housing, life skills training, and job training and placement — all designed to create lasting positive change.
For over a century, the organization has helped children, youth, and families heal through trauma-informed care, behavioral health treatment, and foster care and adoption services. The annual gala serves as an evening of inspiration and generosity, raising essential funds to ensure the best quality of care for Hillsides clients.
