A hormone specialist will discuss her new book aimed at helping women optimize their health at every stage of life Thursday, July 10 at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena.
Dr. Julie Taylor will present “The Hormone Manual: A Straightforward Guide for Every Woman at Every Stage of Life” in conversation with television producer Kristin Matthews. The event runs from 7 to 8 p.m. at the bookstore at 695 E. Colorado Blvd.
Taylor, a functional medicine doctor, created the manual after becoming disillusioned with conventional medicine’s focus on treating rather than preventing diseases. She walked away from her medical residency to find better solutions.
The book provides age-specific guidance for women from birth through their senior years. Taylor believes balanced hormones can transform physical, mental and relational health.
“We have a manual for everything from our smartphones to our printers to our refrigerators,” the book description said. “But where is the manual for our most important asset?”
Taylor earned her medical degree from Michigan State University. She completed her residency in preventive medicine at Loma Linda University, where she also received a Master’s in Public Health.
She specializes in hormone health, gut health and nutrition using functional medicine approaches. Her method focuses on uncovering root causes rather than treating symptoms.
Matthews is known for her work on “The Talk,” CBS’s daytime talk show. She joined the original team that launched the show in 2010 as a coordinating producer.
The bookstore encourages customers to purchase copies of Taylor’s book to support future events.
