Huntington Health launched a comprehensive community outreach initiative on August 15 under the slogan “Community care begins with you,” providing free health screenings and counseling services at multiple neighborhood locations. The program eliminated barriers to preventive healthcare by requiring no appointments, identification, or insurance.
“We believe that access to preventive care should be simple and barrier-free,” said Ruth Pichaj, RN, Manager of Community Outreach, Huntington Health. “These screenings empower individuals to take charge of their health and connect with resources that can make a real difference.”
The mid-day screenings occurred at 12 locations spanning libraries, community centers, and farmers markets throughout the area in Pasadena. Participating venues included Altadena Library, Crowell Public Library, Hastings Branch Library, La Pintoresca Library, Lamanda Park Library, Santa Catalina Branch Library, Jackie Robinson Center, Pasadena Senior Center, Altadena Senior Center at Loma Alta Park, Villa Parke Farmers Market, and Victory Park Farmers Market.
Huntington Health staff provided blood pressure checks, one-on-one health guidance, referrals to medical and social support services, diabetes risk assessments and screenings, plus free educational materials to help maintain wellness.
The program welcomed all adults with completely free admission and no identification or insurance required. Participants seeking diabetes screening were advised to fast for at least two hours beforehand to ensure accurate glucose readings.
The initiative reflects Huntington Health’s mission to build healthier communities, a commitment maintained for over 130 years. As an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai, the organization operates inpatient and outpatient services at its hospital campus and throughout community locations.
