Johnny Buss, the owner of the Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena, will be speaking before the Rotary Club of Pasadena on Wednesday, Jan. 18, to discuss ongoing renovation projects and the reopening of what is regarded as the oldest comedy club in the United States. He may even bring a comic, the Rotary Club said in an announcement.
Buss, the eldest son of Dr. Jerry Buss of the Los Angeles Lakers, has been in sports marketing and promotions since he was 17 years of age. He has been highly successful founding and running multiple sports franchises including the Los Angeles Sparks, and Lazers.
Buss and his father together showed the desire to own and operate a variety night club with emphasis on comedy. In 2019, Johnny jumped at the opportunity to purchase the Ice House from previous owner Bob Fisher.
After owning the club for five months, the pandemic hit and the Ice House was closed but began an extensive renovation that is sure to please comic performers and fans alike.
“We are going to continue the legendary status of the Ice House in Pasadena which was established in 1960, with hope to see another successful 60 years ahead,” Buss said.
When it reopens, expect to see two stages – one, the main showroom, which can accommodate up to 165 people, and another that can accommodate up to 100.
The VIP room, which can also view the main showroom, can hold up to 20 people.
The reception and lunch at the University Club of Pasadena is by RSVP only. To RSVP, call (626) 683-8243 or email office@pasadenarotary.com. Non-members are welcome. The $40 ticket includes lunch.
