The Pasadena Humane Society is hosting an online webinar on Tuesday, September 15, where kids will learn to paint their favorite animals while learning more interesting facts about them.

During “Wildlife in Watercolor,” a free online webinar from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., Loni Watson, Pasadena Humane’s Community Programs Manager, and Wildlife Manager Lauren Hamlett, will be talking about lizards and squirrels while they paint their favorite animals in watercolor.

Participants in this webinar, that’s part of the “Kids for Animals” online program, are encouraged to paint along with the staff from the comforts of home.

“As an organization, Pasadena Humane encourages peaceful co-existence with all wild animals,” Jamie Holeman, Pasadena Humane’s Marketing and Communications Director, said of the importance of the webinar. “It’s important for kids to learn about wild animals living in our neighborhoods and how to live alongside them in harmony. It’s also a fun way to teach kids interesting facts about our wild friends.”

Holeman adds that the pandemic should not discourage anyone from continuing to learn about animals, and especially about caring for animals.

“Just because COVID-19 prevents us from having in-person learning opportunities for kids did not mean we wanted to pause our Humane Education activities,” she said. “We reformatted existing kids programs and created Kids for Animals online to ensure we continue to deliver high-quality, accessible programming for kids.”

“Wildlife in Watercolor” is a recurring free webinar for kids. Each session focuses on different wild animals you’d find in the Pasadena community.

Other online workshops and webinars hosted by Pasadena Humane are intended for animal lovers and pet owners so they can strengthen their bond with their pets and understand peaceful coexistence with wildlife while learning valuable new skills.

All in-person community programming, tours, and events are currently suspended due to COVID-19, Pasadena Humane Society said.
