‘Kitten Lady’ and Photographer Husband to Discuss Global Cat Culture in Pasadena

In a highly anticipated event hosted by Chevalier’s Books, Hannah Shaw, known as Kitten Lady, and her husband Andrew Marttila will discuss their new book “Cats of the World” at Pasadena Humane on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The couple, renowned for their work in kitten rescue and feline photography, will be joined by Georgia Hardstark of the “My Favorite Murder” podcast.

The event, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., will last about two hours and 30 minutes. Pasadena Humane is located at 361 South Raymond Avenue. Attendees will receive pre-signed books and have the opportunity to have photos taken with Shaw and Marttila after the formal discussion.

“Cats of the World” documents the couple’s journey across 30 countries, exploring cat culture and feline welfare through photographs and stories. The book showcases cats in diverse settings, from England’s cathedrals to Chile’s produce markets and Turkey’s spice bazaars.

Shaw, a New York Times bestselling author, has dedicated her career to innovating kitten care and advocating for vulnerable felines. Her other books include “Tiny But Mighty,” “Kitten Lady’s Big Book of Little Kittens,” “Kitten Lady’s CATivity Book,” and the “Adventures in Fosterland” series. She is the founder of Orphan Kitten Club, a nonprofit organization saving neonatal kittens nationwide.

Marttila, a professional animal photographer, has had his work featured in prominent media outlets, including National Geographic and Good Morning America. He has authored several books, including “Shop Cats of New York,” “Cats on Catnip,” and “How to Take Awesome Photos of Cats.” He serves on the Board of Orphan Kitten Club and has raised hundreds of rescued kittens with Shaw.

The event is a significant milestone for the couple, who have made cats their life’s work. Their book aims to demonstrate that compassion for animals transcends cultural boundaries, offering a unique perspective on global feline communities.

Georgia Hardstark, co-host of the popular true crime podcast “My Favorite Murder,” will lead the conversation. Hardstark’s podcast has broken global download records and spawned a dedicated community of listeners known as Murderinos. She co-founded Exactly Right Media and co-authored the bestselling book “Stay Sexy Don’t Get Murdered.”

The discussion promises to offer insights into the couple’s experiences documenting cat cultures worldwide and their ongoing efforts in kitten rescue and rehabilitation. It also highlights the growing interest in feline welfare and cat-centric content across various media platforms.
