The La Casita Foundation will host a Sunday “paint out” to celebrate the beauty and history of La Casita Del Arroyo, a cultural heritage landmark in Pasadena situated along the eastern rim of the Arroyo Seco.
Foundation President Polly Wheaton said anyone interested in the heritage structure is welcome to watch the 20 participating plein air painters while they paint sceneries surrounding the historic building at 117 South Arroyo Boulevard on October 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The event will be free and there is no need for attendees to sign up to be able to join.
According to Wheaton, attendees can purchase the paintings produced by artists during the event and proceeds of the sales will go towards the maintenance of the historic building.
During the event, attendees will also have an opportunity to view and talk to the artists and learn about how they started, how they work on their projects as well as the cost of their paintings.
Aside from raising funds, the foundation also created the event for the public to see and enjoy the surrounding areas of the La Casita Del Arroyo, said Wheaton.
“A lot of the public has not been inside or on the property. So it’s a way for us to get the public to see La Casita.”
“It’s a wonderful structure and we want the public to see it. And we also want [them] to buy art so that we can continue to maintain it,” said Wheaton.
The foundation, which helps the city maintain the structure, specifically the gardens, hosts a paint out every other year for the maintenance of the historic structure.
Located on the banks of the Arroyo in Pasadena, La Casita del Arroyo was built in 1933 as a community meeting house of the City of Pasadena.
The historic site received a Historic Preservation Award from the city in 2015.
