Historic hotel named official partner as designers reimagine 15,000-square-foot Bauer Estate

The Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts has named the Langham Huntington as the official hotel of the 60th Pasadena Showcase House of Design, one of the oldest, largest, and most successful home and garden tours in the country.

Visitors to the Showcase will receive exclusive room rates at The Langham, which is currently renovating all their guestrooms. The hotel will also host the Premiere Night Gala on Friday, April 18, which marks the official opening of the event.

“We are thrilled to partner with The Langham to celebrate our 60th Showcase House,” said Marybeth Rehman-Dittu, this year’s Benefit Chair. “The Langham represents the best in hospitality in Pasadena, and we’re a perfect match in terms of highlighting the latest trends in high-style living. As the historic hotel undergoes a stunning reimagining of all their guestrooms in 2025, it will be the perfect accompaniment to a visit at the Showcase House.”

This year’s Showcase features the Bauer Estate & Gardens, a 15,000-square-foot property set on five acres of historically designed gardens. Up to 30 interior and landscape designers are working together to reimagine the 1928 Monterey colonial estate despite facing challenges from the recent Eaton Fire.

The nonprofit said several designers lost their home in the fire but remained committed to completing the project, which will raise funds for Altadena-based music and arts programs. The estate was designed by renowned Pasadena architect Reginald D. Johnson and built by Peter Hall of Gamble House fame.

Katherine Bashford, one of the earliest female landscape designers, created the property’s extensive gardens. The estate has been meticulously maintained by just two families throughout its 96-year history and received historic designation from the City of Pasadena in 2012 and is highlighted in a proposed historic district with the National Register of Historic Places.

This year’s Premiere Night Gala at The Langham is chaired by Erin Dundee and Pam Ragus. The annual tradition provides a celebratory evening for designers, volunteers, and supporters while raising funds for music and arts programs.

Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, with 240 volunteer members, has contributed more than $26 million to local music and arts programs since its founding in 1948. During the 2023/2024 program year alone, the organization donated $1 million in support of these initiatives.

The organization operates three annual music education programs: the Music Mobile, which has introduced orchestral instruments to over 130,000 third-grade students; the Instrumental Competition, which has awarded more than $700,000 to talented young musicians; and the Youth Concert, which has brought nearly 260,000 fourth graders to Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Throughout its history, Pasadena Showcase has given more than $26 million to nonprofit organizations, particularly through its Gifts & Grants program, in support of music education, scholarships, concerts, and music therapy. It continues to support the LA Phil and its learning programs for which the organization was first founded.

Sponsors of the 60th Pasadena Showcase House of Design include bila77, Dunn-Edwards Paints, and Norman’s Nursery. The showcase will be open to the public from April 20 through May 18, with tickets currently available for purchase.
