Arlington Gardens in Pasadena, in partnership with Fruitstitute, is offering a Citrus 101 Workshop Series on Sunday, August 1, at 275 Arlington Drive, 9:30 to 1:30 p.m.
In this workshop, you will learn how to care for your delicious backyard citrus, with Fruitstitute teaching you low impact, environmentally responsible ways to prune and care for your citrus.
The workshop will be in the Citrus Grove at Arlington Gardens, a water-wise habitat garden that fosters a diverse ecosystem by employing regenerative gardening techniques. This recurring workshop is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the art of citrus tree care for the home orchard. From July through October, Fruitstitute will teach you the art of backyard citrus orcharding, or growing fruit for non-commercial uses.
The bi-monthly workshop series is the only one of its kind in Los Angeles. Each workshop will include a lecture on seasonal care of citrus trees, including tree assessment, biology and physiology of citrus. Lectures will be followed by two to three hours of pruning where participants will gain hands-on experience on how to prune citrus.
It will be hot at the Citrus Grove so please come prepared; wear sunscreen, a hat, and bring lots of water. Pruning is also physical labor and hard work so please dress appropriately, with boots and long sleeves, and be ready to get dirty.
The workshop is not suitable for children.
