Feeling green already?
St. Patrick’s Day on Monday, is just around the corner, and Pasadena is gearing up for a shamrockin’ good time (sorry). Whether you’re after a lively bar crawl, traditional Irish fare, or a festive happy hour, there’s something for every leprechaun in Pasadena.
As you get reminded every year, St. Patrick’s Day, the world’s favorite excuse to drink green beer, traces its roots back to 17th-century Ireland, honoring St. Patrick, the country’s patron saint. Legend has it, he drove the snakes out of Ireland—though some historians say there were never any to begin with (nice try, Pat).
Originally a solemn religious feast, the day has since transformed into a global celebration of all things Irish, with parades, shamrocks, and questionable dance moves. The first St. Paddy’s parade? Not in Dublin, (and not Pasadena, that’s where Cheeseburgers were born), but in 1737 Boston.
Kick off the festivities with the Pasadena Official St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl, presented by PubCrawls.com. Starting at 5 PM at Der Wolf, located at 72 North Fair Oaks Avenue, this crawl promises exclusive drink specials and access to multiple venues. Tickets and more details are available right here.
If a cozy pub atmosphere is more your style, Lucky Baldwins Pub at 17 South Raymond Avenue is the place to be. Open from 9 AM until after 1 AM, they’re serving up a special menu featuring Corned Beef & Cabbage, Hot Irish Stew, and, of course, a selection of Irish beers on tap. Peep it at oldpasadena.org
For those seeking a sort-of historic touch, the Tam O’Shanter at 2980 Los Feliz Blvd. in Los Angeles is hosting their annual St. Patrick’s Day Party starting at noon. As one of LA’s oldest restaurants, they’re known for their festive atmosphere and hearty meals. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (323) 664-0228, or go to lawrysonline.com
In South Pasadena, Griffins of Kinsale at 1007 Mission St. is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Happy Hour from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. It’s a great spot to enjoy a pint and some traditional Irish dishes in a friendly setting. ndcla.com+1yelp.com+1
