Published on Aug 17, 2024

The Pasadena Public Library is marking its 140th anniversary with a unique collage art event, blending historical archives with creative expression. Scheduled for August 24, the workshop invites community members to craft visual narratives using library imagery.

Artist Patricia Woodlin will guide participants in creating collages that reflect the library’s past, present, and future. The event, titled “Collage Art: Past, Present, Future of PPL,” will take place at the Santa Catalina Branch Library 999 East Washington Boulevard from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Attendees will have access to a diverse array of materials, including archival images of various library branches, textured paper, fabric, and other types of mixed media. The workshop aims to engage families and individuals of all ages in a hands-on exploration of the library’s rich history.

The Santa Catalina Branch serves as a fitting backdrop for this commemorative event. Its selection underscores the library’s commitment to honoring its heritage while fostering community engagement throughout its various locations.

As part of the library’s broader anniversary celebrations, this event highlights the institution’s enduring role in cultural enrichment. The use of archival images in artistic creation symbolizes the library’s evolution and its continued relevance in the digital age.

To ensure accessibility, the library encourages those requiring accommodations to contact the hosting library site at least 72 hours in advance. This proactive approach reflects the library’s commitment to inclusive community programming.

The “Collage Art” workshop, categorized as both an Arts & Culture and Celebrations event, represents a creative intersection of history and art, inviting participants to reimagine the library’s legacy
