In a blend of dance, music and storytelling, the Lineage Dance Company in Pasadena will present “A New Day,” which they describe as “a theatrical love letter to those we’ve lost” during World AIDS Day.

The musical storytelling extravaganza on Dec. 8 will share stories that are drawn from real-life accounts, said a Lineage Dance Company announcement.

The performance incorporates testimonies from front-line doctors who describe “the early days of fear and misinformation” and AIDS activists who share their battles.

One featured narrative includes an actor in the Broadway production of “Cats” who recounts his diagnosis and journey through the illness, the statement said.

The stories explore personal journeys while drawing parallels to the history of the disease’s progression in society and the governmental response throughout the decades.

The production aims to “ignite memory and celebrate unique lives” while addressing over 40 years since the first AIDS cases were identified.

The Lineage Dance Company is partnering with the Phil Simon Clinic Tanzania Project to raise awareness for their work providing community healthcare around the world.

The 90-minute performance, which includes an intermission, will take place at Lineage, located at 920 E. Mountain Street in Pasadena, with curtain time set for 5 p.m.

Parental guidance is suggested for the performance.
