The Los Angeles Philharmonic will stage a free concert Tuesday night at the Hollywood Bowl for residents affected by the Eaton Fire that will pay homage to first responders who battled January’s devastating wildfires and communities affected by the blazes.
The “We LA” concert, beginning at 8 p.m., will feature the LA Phil conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, with appearances by pop superstar Christina Aguilera and Altadena pianist Gerald Clayton.
Ticket distribution prioritizes first responders and residents from impacted communities. Gates open at 6 p.m. at the Bowl’s Highland Avenue location. Tickets information is available here.
Dudamel, the Phil’s Music & Artistic Director since 2009, will lead a program that includes Gabriela Ortiz’s “Kayumaari,” the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, and Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” Variations featuring Clayton. The second half showcases John Williams film scores including selections from “Superman,” “Jurassic Park,” “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars.” Additional symphonic classics performed by special guests yet to be announced will complete the program.
The Palisades Charter High School Band will perform the National Anthem to open the concert.
Those unable to attend can listen to the live broadcast on Classical California KUSC (91.5 FM) and KDFC in San Francisco, with streaming available on their websites: kusc.org and kdfc.com. Jennifer Miller Hammel and Brian Lauritzen will host the broadcast.
Aguilera, who has sold over 75 million records worldwide, has achieved five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won seven Grammy Awards, including two Latin Grammys. Clayton, raised in Altadena, is a six-time Grammy nominee.
The Philharmonic was collaborating with community organizations to ensure those most affected by the fires received priority access to the tribute event.
