Pasadena Playhouse presents the world premiere production of “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile: The Musical,” featuring music by EGOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, opening February 2025.

The production, running from Feb. 15 through March 16 in partnership with The Colony Theatre in Burbank, marks the second world premiere in the Playhouse’s Youth and Family series, following their sold-out run of “Grumpy Monkey, The Musical.”

The musical features both songs from the 2022 film adaptation and new material by Pasek and Paul, known for “La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” and “The Greatest Showman.”

The creative team includes additional songwriters Ari Afsar, Emily Xu Hall, Joriah Kwamé, and Mark Sonnenblick, who wrote the songs for the 2022 film version of “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.”

Timothy Allen McDonald and Sara Wordsworth have written the libretto, with Nina Meehan directing the production at The Colony Theatre, located at 555 N. Third Street.

Pasadena Playhouse, California’s official State Theater and recipient of the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award, will partner with Pasadena Unified School District and Burbank Unified School District to bring thousands of students to see the show free of charge.

The production draws inspiration from Bernard Waber’s picture books, “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” and “The House on East 88th Street,” published in 1962.

Tickets start at $34, with everyone ages 2 and older requiring a ticket. Performances are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., designed for 5- to 12-year-olds and their families.

Tickets are available at pasadenaplayhouse.org, by phone at (626) 356-7529, and at the box office at 39 South El Molino Ave. in Pasadena.
