Museums of the Arroyo Day Virtually Returns

Published on May 7, 2021

Pasadena Museum of History will celebrate the diverse mix of art, architecture, and history of the Arroyo Seco area on Sunday, May 16, with Museums of the Arroyo (MOTA) Day.

Although the traditional MOTA Day open house at the six museums along the Arroyo that preserve and perpetuate shared history is necessarily canceled for public safety, you will find participating venues offering creatively hybrid live/virtual programming, with the easing of pandemic protocols.

PMH is offering a free guided walking tour of Orange Grove Boulevard with Pasadena Walking Tours at 11 a.m., and a free guided Virtual 3D tour of the Fenyes Mansion at 12:30 p.m.

Both tours will celebrate the iconic street along which the Cityyou know now as Pasadena was established.

Orange Grove Blvd. overlooks the Arroyo Seco and with stunning views of the mountains beyond. This walking tour will include such highlights as the Indiana Colony settlements, Colorado Street Bridge, Millionaires’ Row, Bohemian artistic communities, Craftsman architecture, resort hotels, and the Rose Parade.

The walking tour begins and ends in the PMH parking lot. Free street parking is also available.

The guided virtual tour will take you through the historic 1906 Beaux Arts Fenyes Mansion, offering you the chance to travel back in time and discover what life was like when Eva and Dr. Adalbert Fenyes lived in Pasadena.

The home is largely unchanged, with the family’s original furnishings and art collection, demonstrating their wide-ranging interests and sophisticated taste. The PMH guide will tell you more about specific objects, early Pasadena history, and the Fenyes family story.

A link to the Zoom presentation will be posted on www.pasadenahistory.org/events-overview/free-days as well as PMH social media accounts. No reservations are required.
