The Pasadena Chorale announced a special benefit concert featuring acclaimed pianists Jeffrey Kahane and Tali Tadmor. The event, titled “Twenty Fingers,” aims to raise funds for the organization’s community-based choral music initiatives.
“Twenty Fingers is a unique opportunity to experience the magic of piano four hands played by two of the finest musicians. We are beyond excited to bring this extraordinary concert to our community,” said Founding Artistic and Executive Director Jeffrey Bernstein.
The concert will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 7 p.m. at San Marino Community Church, located at 1750 Virginia Rd. in San Marino.
In this rare collaboration, Kahane and Tadmor will perform a program of piano music for four hands, showcasing works by Samuel Barber, Astor Piazzolla, Francis Poulenc, and Franz Schubert.
Proceeds from the event will support the Pasadena Chorale’s mission to provide high-quality, expansive, and inclusive concert and education programs to the public at no cost. The organization offers free concerts and educational initiatives, including the Listening To The Future program, which pairs local high school composers with professional mentors for a year of study at no cost to participating students. The program culminates in a concert featuring music composed by these students.
Jeffrey Kahane, known for his “imagination, devotion, and supreme musicianship” according to the Los Angeles Times, brings extensive experience as a pianist, conductor, and scholar. He has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony, and served as Music Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra for 20 years. Kahane has also given recitals with renowned musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell.
Tali Tadmor, a Los Angeles-based pianist, vocal coach, and conductor, has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall. Her collaborations include work with Metropolitan Opera soprano Angela Meade and Los Angeles Philharmonic cellist Daniel Rothmuller.
The Pasadena Chorale, founded by Jeffrey Bernstein in 2009, is an auditioned community chorus that has a history of successful collaborations with various musical organizations. These include the Pasadena Playhouse, MUSE/IQUE, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Gamble House.
In 2017, the Chorale was awarded second place in the American Prize in Choral Performance.
The group is supported by grants from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Pasadena Community Foundation, Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, and the City of Pasadena. In line with its mission “to create choral music that educates, uplifts and inspires as many people as possible,” the Pasadena Chorale offers its regular concerts to the public at no cost, ensuring accessibility for all.
