Whether you’re in a community college or just recently graduated, it’s never a bad idea to try and get a step ahead.

For Pasadena City College students and graduates, the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) and FEMA Corps are holding an all-day career event from 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, to show participants the several advantages that can get them ahead of the curve.

In this online event, the organizer, VIP NCCC, will present paid training and leadership development opportunities available in the fields of disaster response, environmental projects, community support, rebuilding, human services, technology, urban and rural planning, public relations and management.

These opportunities are open for both students and recent PCC graduates, as well as professionals whose expertise and experience may be required by the NCCC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The organizers said these opportunities are an excellent option for those interested in business, computer science/IT, construction, carpentry, building trades, animal care, education, environmental management, emergency services, forestry, disaster response, public administration, social sciences, law enforcement, homeland security, public health, public relations, writing/journalism, counseling, human services, recreation, nonprofit services, or careers with local, state or federal government and organizations.

This federal program does not require any experience or educational degree, but team leader options are open for those with advanced skills and education. You can actually begin the application process at age 17, and if accepted, you’ll gain experience while exploring career options and get a competitive edge over other job applicants in private or government sectors.

You’ll also acquire leadership and management experience, gain college credits for continuing education and workforce development, acquire new contacts by networking with government and community agency directors, gain new skills in your career field and expand your capabilities, and gain advantages for college, trade school or apprenticeships.

You’ll earn bi-weekly pay plus $6,095 to pay off educational debt or pay for future educational and job training expenses, and be paid travel, lodging, and healthcare allowances, plus childcare allowance if applicable.

The program can be repeated as long as you remain qualified.

This online career event is free to attend and will be available every Sunday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
