The Pasadena Lapidary Society is set to present its 64th annual Gem & Mineral Show on August 24 and 25, 2024, at the Arcadia Masonic Center. This year’s event holds special significance as the society marks its 75th anniversary since incorporation as a California nonprofit in 1949.

Visitors to the show can expect a diverse array of exhibits featuring club members’ displays of gemstones, mineral and fossil specimens, and member-created jewelry and artwork. The event will also include demonstrations of lapidary techniques and jewelry-making skills, offering attendees a glimpse into the craft.

Dealers will be on hand selling a variety of goods, from minerals and beads to lapidary tools and educational materials. The show aims to cater to all ages, with activities designed specifically for younger enthusiasts.

Children can participate in interactive experiences such as the Treasure Wheel and Sand Scoop, where they can win prizes and start their own rock collections. A special ultraviolet light display will showcase fluorescent rocks, adding an element of scientific wonder to the event.

The Pasadena Lapidary Society will offer grab bags containing surprise minerals and gemstones, as well as a “Bargain Stop” featuring discounted gem and mineral materials. Attendees can also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes.

Inspiring and educational, the gem show provides an opportunity for families to explore the world of gem, mineral, rock and fossil collecting, earth sciences and the lapidary arts without leaving town. The event will also feature a new member signup, club field trip information, and a general information table.

The society’s mission extends beyond the annual show, encompassing year-round activities such as field trips, lapidary workshops, and outreach presentations. These efforts align with the Pasadena Lapidary Society’s goal of promoting sound mineral resource stewardship and environmental awareness.

The Gem & Mineral Show will be open to the public on Saturday, August 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, August 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking for the event are free.

For those interested in joining the society or learning more about its activities, information will be available at the show. The Pasadena Lapidary Society holds monthly program meetings, open to the public, on the third Tuesday of each month in the Fellowship Hall of the Santa Anita Church at 226 W. Colorado Blvd., Arcadia, CA 91007, from 7:00-8:45 p.m.
