The Pasadena Conservatory of Music (PCM) is bringing a beloved winter children’s classic to life through an interactive musical performance at Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., this December.
The free 45-minute program, running from 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, will feature Ezra Jack Keats’ Caldecott Medal-winning book “The Snowy Day.” This is part of PCM’s Musical Storytime series which has been hosted at Vroman’s for some years now.
This celebrated classic has been shared by generations of readers and listeners and is widely regarded as a must-have for every child’s bookshelf and perfect holiday gift.
The story is set in 1962, when a little boy named Peter put on his snowsuit and stepped out of his house and into the hearts of millions of readers, beginning a beloved literary journey.
The quiet fun and sweetness of Peter’s small adventures in the deep, deep snow makes this story perfect for reading together on a cozy winter day. The story, universal in its appeal, has been praised for its depiction of a child’s wonder at discovering a snow-covered world for the first time.
PCM faculty and students will perform musical adaptations at the Colorado Boulevard bookstore, incorporating songs, dance and activities designed specifically for young children and caregivers.
The performance represents the latest installment of Musical Storytime, which regularly brings musical adaptations of popular children’s literature to the historic Pasadena venue.
These monthly sessions, mostly at Vroman’s Bookstore, aim to combine storytelling with creative activities, allowing children and caregivers to experience music together.
