The Tzu Chi Center will feature Professor James A. Lynch, Jr., Associate Professor and Chair of the Business Management Department at Brooklyn College and President of the Buddhist Council of New York, as guest speaker at the C.A.F.E. 229 virtual stage, where he’ll be joined by host Dr. Peter Lin on Friday, August 20, starting at 7 p.m.

They will be discussing “Six Insights Into the Mind,” a Tzu Chi Center announcement said.

C.A.F.E is Compassion in Action, Freedom, Enlightenment. At the virtual event that happens on the third Friday of each month, the Tzu Chi Center invites speakers from the fields of psychology, health care, clinical research, religious practice and studies, philosophy, arts and culture, communications, global studies, and service-learning.

In this program, Prof. Lynch and Dr. Lin will explore Lynch’s work as a teacher and Buddhist leader, and how the interests of capitalism and business need not conflict with spiritual goals and practices.

Lynch is a Dharma Teacher as authorized by the lay Buddhist organization, Rissho Kosei Kai, whose teachings are based in great part off the Lotus Sutra. He is an official representative for their outside affairs in the New York City area, as well as an official representative for Rissho Kosei Kai to the United Nations. The Buddhist Council of New York which he heads represents more than 750,000 Buddhists in the Tri-State area.

In addition, Lynch has helped organize the Heiwa Peace Foundation, a think tank for peace whose primary work is done in the United States and Asia. He also sits on the board of Religions for Peace USA, the largest interfaith peace organization in the U.S., and was recently appointed as a Trustee to the prestigious Parliament of World Religions.
