Raise the Roof Gala Raises Over $225,000 for Affordable Housing in San Gabriel Valley

On September 21, over 200 supporters gathered at the Le Meridien Hotel in Arcadia for the Raise the Roof Gala, an annual event hosted by San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity. The event celebrated the organization’s mission to provide affordable housing solutions and raised funds to empower families and build strength and stability in local communities.

The night began with a lively cocktail reception, featuring a wine toss, complimentary tastings provided by Knox & Dobson and a 360 degree photo booth accompanied by the sounds of the Glendale Youth Symphony. Guests were able to bid on exciting auction items while mingling and enjoying perfect weather in the beautiful hotel courtyard.

The event was more than just a night of celebration; it was an opportunity to make an impact in providing more affordable places to live in our communities.

“Over the next three years SGV Habitat will change the lives of over 200 families, in 31 communities, through our Framing the Future campaign,” said SGV Habitat CEO Bryan Wong during the evening’s events. “This comes at a time when housing costs are at an all-time high. The income needed to afford a median priced home in LA is over $200,000! More than double what the average household earns in our area. And that does not include the money needed for a down payment … However, with Habitat there is hope!”

The local housing nonprofit is attacking this problem using a variety of approaches – from new construction to rehabbed homes to adapted reuse to ADUs. Currently SGV Habitat has over 60 homeownership projects on 5 different sites in the works.

During the evening several supporters who have made a real difference in the growth of the organization over the last few years were honored.

The City of Baldwin Park was recognized with the Community Builder award for their firm commitment to making housing affordable in their city. Nearly half of the upcoming projects SGV Habitat has in the pipeline will be in Baldwin Park.

Longtime supporter Kathyjo McCloskey-Rushing received the prestigious Ace Cain Humanitarian Award. This award is presented to individuals who represent the spirit and vision of SGV Habitat’s founder John “Ace” Cain.

In addition, the nonprofit recognized Addison Coniglio, and Macha and Melissa Suzuki for their contributions to the work being done locally.

The evening was filled with elegance, entertainment, and, most importantly, a shared commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. The Gala raised more than $225,000 to empower families and build strength and stability in communities through homeownership and home preservation.
