Rebecca Crews, wife of actor and TV personality Terry Crews, is set to launch her debut fashion line with a pop-up store in Old Pasadena this week. The temporary retail space will showcase her collection, which focuses on elegant and comfortable suits and outerwear for women who want to “look like the boss.”
Crews emphasized the importance of comfort in her designs.
“I’ve worn many beautiful pieces. That’s my goal — make it comfortable, make it beautiful,” she explained.
Her collection emerged from Crews’ personal experience struggling to find suitable formal wear for her 30th anniversary celebration. She wanted to wear a white tuxedo designed for women but couldn’t find one that met her standards.“I went around Los Angeles with a stylist looking for either a white tux or at least a really crisp white suit. And I just had no luck,” Crews recalled.
Her frustration eventually led her to create her own line of women’s suits.
“I said to myself, I just need to start making clothes,” Crews realized after piecing together an outfit from different designers.
Crews’ interest in fashion dates back to her childhood.
“When I was a little girl, I used to draw people in beautiful clothing. So yeah, I was probably third or fourth grade that I told my mom, I think I want to be a fashion designer,” she shared.
Crews’ fashion-saavy mother held huge influence over her style sensibilities.
The debut collection includes six ensembles featuring tuxedos and blouses in various color combinations. Crews’ designs feature tailored jackets with pinched waists and ample hip room, paired with boot-cut pants that offer a slim fit while accommodating curves.
Classic yet modern, with expert tailoring to create a feminine fit
The pieces are designed for “women like me, women who’ve had children, women who aren’t size two models,” Crews explained.
The brand has already gained traction among celebrities.
Jennifer Hudson purchased one of Crews’ coats, while Janet Yang, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, wore a lemon-yellow suit from the line to the Oscar nominations ceremony.
Other notable figures spotted in Crews’ designs include Ava DuVernay, Geena Davis, Christina Milian, MC Lyte, and Tatyana Ali.
“These are the kind of women who I’m reaching. Ladies like me, who want to be professional. They don’t try to wear a miniskirt to the Oscar. They want to look like the boss — which they are,” Crews said.
In addition to womenswear, Crews announced plans to launch a menswear collection for the upcoming holiday and awards season.
This expansion comes after noticing that “half the people who borrowed my suits from the PR house were men,” Crews said.
Crews’ pop-up store, located in Old Pasadena, is a collaboration with Bokaos Aveda Salon in the One Colorado Square at 52 Hugus Alley in Old Pasadena.
It opens Friday, October 11.
Crews chose Pasadena for her flagship store, saying, “I love Pasadena. I love this city. I’ve been here since 2000 and it’s just like home to me.”
Crews is offering a significant discount during the pop-up event on Oct. 27-29.
“So come get it while it’s hot! We’re going to give you a good discount if you come opening weekend,” Crews enthused.
The collection includes classic pieces such as white and black tuxedos, as well as new fall suits in black and navy. Upcoming items include leather joggers, cashmere sweaters, and unique outerwear pieces like an eel skin trench coat.
Crews emphasized her focus on comfort and practicality: “I do my best to put stretch in all of my clothing, so it’s comfortable. That’s hard to find.”
