Ronald McDonald House Pasadena’s SHINE Gala Raised Funds for “Togetherness”

Ronald McDonald House Pasadena’s annual SHINE Gala: Under the Tuscan Sun was held on Saturday, October 15th at the beautiful Annandale Golf Club. Despite threats of rainy weather, more than 280 attendees celebrated under a festive tent, raising more than $340,000 to provide a home-away-from-home for families whose children are receiving life changing medical treatment. The event celebrated keeping families together by creating a community of support and enabling families to access the best medical care possible for their child. 

Bringing life to the party were corporate honoree and presenting sponsor, Bank of America, and community honorees the Felton Family: Mitsuko & Dave and Christopher & Hanako. Each honoree brought enthusiastic and passionate supporters to celebrate the Ronald McDonald House mission, joining with long-time advocate, active community members, and corporate partners.

As Executive Director Mara Leong-Maguinez shared with the audience, “Ronald McDonald House Pasadena, is all about community-having a place where everyone feels welcome, where they are supported and where they can relax. Everyone here tonight is part of our community of support-making sure families are greeted with comfort and kindness when caring for their critically ill child.”

The highlight of the evening was hearing from Zenae and Justin Kindred, a family currently staying at Ronald McDonald House Pasadena as their newborn daughter, bor four months premature, gains strength in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Funds raised through the SHINE Gala – co-chaired by Sandra Larson and Andrew Nay – will support the Ronald McDonald House Pasadena mission of providing comfort, care, and support to families with critically ill children, keeping them close to one another,, their doctors, and needed medical care. As Justin Kindred shared with the audience, “We are grateful that we can stay at Ronald McDonald House Pasadena for as long as we need. Anyone can find themselves in a position needing help. Thank you for helping us and so many other families.”
