A free memoir writing workshop aimed at helping adults over 50 preserve their personal histories will be held at the Washington Park Community House in Pasadena on Jan. 23.
The event, organized by Pasadena Village, a nonprofit that supports aging-in-place older adults, will feature Pat Kramer, owner of Writer For Hire, as the lead facilitator and instructor.
Participants will gather for complimentary coffee and tea from 2 to 2:30 p.m., followed by an instructional session designed to guide attendees who want to record their life stories.
Kramer, drawing from her personal experience beginning in 2008, discovered memoir writing as a means to reconnect with her extended family and document ancestral histories.
“I began writing memoirs in 2008 as a way to connect with my ancestors,” Kramer said in the event announcement. “I loved doing this, so much, that I began offering this service to my clients.”
The nonprofit currently maintains three active memoir and creative writing groups, with plans for a fourth group in development, offering ongoing support for aspiring memoirists.
The two-and-a-half-hour session, scheduled from 2 to 3:30 p.m., is part of the organization’s Village Connections series, which regularly features presentations and discussions led by adults over 50.
The event is open to all. Registration is required through pasadena.helpfulvillage.com/
