The Pasadena Senior Center is hosting the Great American Swing Band in an outdoor concert on Memorial Day Monday, May 30, to celebrate the bravery, courage, and spirit of the men and women in the armed forces.
The concert will take place on the patio, with a Zoom link open so people who can’t come in person will be able to enjoy the music.
“We’re having the great American swing band and the theme is red, white and blue, and every arm of the armed forces will be recognized,” Akila Gibbs, Executive Director of the Pasadena Senior Center. Said. “We’ll play all of them, like the Air Force has their song, the Navy has their song, the Army has their song and we’ll do that.”
The Great American Swing Band will also perform classic American band music while honoring the armed forces, playing Taps at the end of the performance, Gibbs said.
“It’s a good opportunity for a lot of seniors to get out of the house because a lot of them just haven’t been going to a lot of things,” Gibbs added.”They’re still nervous about the Coronavirus and I think the fact that this is outside and they get to visit with friends, I think it’ll be good.”
For anyone who’d want a dance floor while watching the concert, the doors of the Senior Center’s Dance Studio adjacent to the patio will be open.
The concert begins at 2 p.m., free for Pasadena Senior Center members, and $5 for non-members.
