After a two-year break due to the global pandemic, The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens held its 2022 Huntington Ball on Saturday evening, September 10, 2022. The event helps bolster The Huntington’s core mission of encouraging research and education in the arts, humanities, and botanical sciences. Chaired by Lisa and Tim Sloan, the black-tie gala brought together approximately 430 distinguished guests to the Huntington in San Marino. The Sloans have been generous supporters of The Huntington for over two decades and Tim was elected to the Board of Governors in 2003.
Food was provided by Schaffer Catering. Chefs Kathleen Schaffer and Lex Heijligers created a delightful menu that included an amuse bouche of sea bass ceviche. The first course was a summer vegetable carpaccio followed by roasted filet mignon with rainbow chard and polenta. Available by request was a vegan vegetable timbale with bamboo rice, roasted vegetables, lime, coconut, pea tendrils, and Thai green curry. The meal was completed with a Kentucky bourbon tiramisu cube with devil’s food cake, mascarpone cream, bourbon, and espresso sauce. Cocktails and drinks were generously donated by Justin Wines, Landmark Wines, Jones Coffee Roasters, and Fiji Water, and champagne was donated by Trader Joes.
Guests were welcomed by Huntington President Karen R. Lawrence who reflected on the institution’s growth and future. Tim Sloan also spoke and thanked the attendees for their support of The Huntington. West Coast Music entertained guests with a live performance by a 12-piece band. Following dessert, dancing and after dinner cocktails continued well into the night.
