A big SoCal Helpful Honda pet adoption event is taking place today at Pasadena Humane, offering community members an opportunity to help animals affected by January’s devastating Eaton Fire. The special National Puppy Day event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the shelter’s facility located at 361 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena, creating a focused window for adoptions with enhanced incentives.

“This initiative directly helps animals affected by the Eaton Fire while supporting our ongoing recovery efforts,” said a Pasadena Humane representative. “Every adoption makes room for another animal in need.”

The event is part of Honda’s broader commitment to animal welfare and coincides with National Puppy Day celebrations at the shelter. While Pasadena Humane typically operates from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for adoptions, this special four-hour window offers additional “paw-some perks” for those looking to adopt on a first-come, first-served basis. Standard adoption procedures remain in place to ensure proper pet placement.

Since the Eaton Fire began on January 7, 2025, Pasadena Humane has mobilized an extensive emergency response operation. The organization has taken in more than 400 displaced animals, including not just cats and dogs, but also unusual species such as cockatoos, goats, and even a pony walked down from Altadena to the shelter.

Many animals arrived with severe injuries requiring immediate medical attention.

“We’re seeing burns. We’re seeing singed paws. We’re seeing singed whiskers. We’re seeing smoke inhalation problems,” said one Pasadena Humane representative at the time.

The shelter has successfully reunited more than 1,o00 animals with their owners through microchip scanning and owner verification processes. A team of 150 employees, including five full-time veterinarians, worked almost around the clock to provide emergency care, with numerous volunteers assisting in the effort.

Pasadena Humane follows an “open adoption philosophy” welcoming adopters from all backgrounds. Their conversation-based approach aims to match prospective pet parents with animals that fit their lifestyle.

All dogs, cats, and rabbits adopted from the shelter are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on appropriate vaccinations.

The shelter also provides ongoing support through behavior advice, training classes, and low-cost wellness services.

The Helpful Honda event is part of a broader commitment by Honda to support animal welfare. Similar events at other shelters have included adoption fee coverage and essential supplies for new pet owners.

For those unable to attend today’s event but wishing to help, Pasadena Humane welcomes donations, volunteer assistance, and foster home applications to support their continued work with animals affected by the disaster. Click here.
