Two local music nonprofits in the Altadena-Pasadena area will host simultaneous benefit concerts on February 16 to support musicians and community members affected by the Eaton Fire. Melodia Mariposa and the Pasadena Conservatory of Music are organizing separate performances at 4:00 p.m., offering community members different ways to contribute to wildfire relief efforts.
The promotional materials state that “the arts provide hope and healing like nothing else can,” describing the concerts as “powerful, moving tributes” to wildfire survivors.
The Altadena Strong fundraiser, presented by Melodia Mariposa at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1757 N Lake Avenue, will feature the Lyris Quartet with special guests Alan Chapman, KUSC host, and Bruce Broughton, composer. This event runs from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with free admission and welcomed donations, ensuring accessibility while directing all proceeds directly to Altadena’s musicians impacted by the Eaton fire, with no intermediary allocation.
Simultaneously, the Pasadena Conservatory of Music will host its Eaton Fire Benefit Concert at Barrett Hall, 100 N Hill Ave, Pasadena. The event features a fixed admission price of $25, with tickets available through a purchase link provided in promotional materials. These funds will support both wildfire survivors and impacted musicians in the community.
The dual-venue strategy reflects a coordinated approach to community outreach, with organizers intentionally providing both free and paid options to accommodate diverse socioeconomic groups within the Altadena and Pasadena communities. This collaborative effort between the arts nonprofits aims to address both immediate wildfire relief needs and support the cultural sector’s recovery, emphasizing music as a tool for emotional recovery post-disaster.
