For many, Christmas dinner has to center around a turkey or a glazed ham. But in some Italian households, fish is on the menu on Christmas eve for “The Feast of the Seven Fishes.”
The Italian-American tradition is alive in the Union Restaurant Pasadena at 37 E. Union St. The restaurant will present “Feast of the Seven Fishes,” with seven incredible and memorable courses on Christmas eve, December 24.
Union Head Chef Sandro Hernandez said the holiday feast highlights mostly local seafood.
“For sure we can expect fresh, good quality seafood, amazing quality seafood.”
“We’re going to be doing some traditional things, but also have some fun with the menu.”
The restaurant will serve Brioche, Lobster Churro, Kampachi Crudo, Calamaro Roba, Tortellini En Brodo, Paccheri and Swordfish Cotoletta.
David Castagnetti, beverage director, has curated exceptional wine pairings to enhance the celebration.
Hernandez did the holiday seafood menu in collaboration with members of his team including sous chefs, Breandan Rielly and Andrew Mercado.
“This is a team effort. We all pitch in, we all help each other. No one’s left behind.”
“We’re a new team. We’re up and coming. I would love for people to get to know who we are. I would love for people to get to know the new team, get to know the new flavors, new techniques that are going to be happening. We’re here to have fun.”
This is the first time in two years that Union will present the annual seafood feast. Last time it was able to do it was in 2019 prior to the pandemic.
“We’re going to hope that people are going to come eat here with their families. So we hope to make it a memorable night for them.”
The Union’s “The Feast of the Seven Fishes” holiday dinner costs $135.00 per person. Wine pairing, which is optional, costs $45. The dinner is available to book at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
