Pasadena Vice Mayor Tyron Hampton is inviting residents to participate in the District 1 Mile-a-Day Challenge, a special one-day event on Wednesday, Oct. 7, California Clean Air Day.
“I invite you to join me on one of the segments of my neighborhood run.” Hampton says in the Instagram video he released. “You can run it, you can walk it, you can do jumping jacks through it, however you want to get through it, and if you do it, there’s some really cool prizes.”
To be part of the challenge, all participants need to do is take a mile-long walk along part of Hampton’s jogging route. If they can do that, walkers can win an insulated bottle. Walkers are encouraged to take photos of their walk or run and then to send them to walktober@pasadenacsc.com, or use the hashtags #walktoberpasadena, #cleanairday, or #district1walks to be included in the raffle for the grand prize at the end of the month.
The District 1 Mile-a-Day Challenge is part of the annual month-long Walktober that the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition, in partnership with other organizations, is holding this year, though mostly in the virtual sense in consideration of COVID-19 protocols.
After Wednesday, people still can do their District 1 walk, or any of the Walktober 2020 events, any day between now and Oct. 31, and share pictures on social media.
People may be interested to know they have a chance to win the Walktober 2020 Grand Prize at the end of the month. Not only that, but they can also win a local nursery gift certificate, courtesy of the Coalition for Clean Air, which is co-sponsoring the District 1 Mila-a-Day Challenge with Hampton.
The Coalition for Clean Air is also encouraging people to take the Clean Air Pledge at www.cleanairday.org.
