The third annual Head in the Clouds Asian Music Festival, coming to Pasadena’s Brookside Park on Saturday and Sunday, November 6 and 7, will be accompanied by the release of “California,” the next single from 88rising’s long-awaited Head In The Clouds III collaborative album.

Featuring 88Rising flagship artists Rich Brian, NIKI, and newcomer Warren Hue, “California” is a heartfelt ode to the idyllic Golden State. The single release is accompanied by a music video directed by Jason Ano that intermixes candid footage of the three Indonesian transplants together, along with intimate vignettes of life in Californian suburbia, and glimpses of Asian-Americana.

Head In The Clouds III, the album, is the next installment of the iconic series featuring 88Rising artists and special guests from East to West. The project will bring listeners from around the world into the Asian diasporic experience through a universal lens – lovelorn, self-reflective, and homesick songs about triumphing over self-doubt and being caught between two worlds.

“Over wistful acoustic guitar and ethereal production from Wallis Lane, Jack LoMastro, and Jacob Ray, ‘California’ is an arresting introduction to the next Head In The Clouds installment,” the organizers said in an announcement about the release.

The Head in the Clouds 2021 festival opens at 2 p.m. on both days. The event also brings back 626 Night Market as the official food curator. 626 Night Market, LA’s beloved foodie event inspired by night markets of Asia, started collaborating with 88 Rising at the 2019 Head in the Clouds event.

Almost 30 bands and performers will be featured in the festival, which started in 2018 at the Los Angeles State Historic Park.

Tickets start at $199 for the two-day General Admission, and $399 for the VIP pass.

This year, a $1 donation per ticket to Head in the Clouds will ensure that young people in Los Angeles have access to creative exploration through Inner-City Arts, widely recognized as one of the nation’s most effective arts education providers for children in Los Angeles’ Skid Row. Purchasers will also have the option to donate additional funds at checkout.
