
“Final Destination Bloodlines” slayed the competition at the box office this weekend, opening with $51 million to easily lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The reboot of the early 2000s horror franchise topped “Thunderbolts,” which grossed $16.5 million Friday through Sunday in its third week, Comscore reported.
“Sinners” was third with $15.4 million in its fifth weekend at theaters in the United States and Canada.
“A Minecraft Movie” was fourth with $5.8 million in its seventh week, followed by “The Accountant 2” with $4.9 million in its fourth week.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow,” the semi-biographical thriller co-written by and starring Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), opened with a disappointing $3.3 million for sixth place.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “Friendship” ($1.4 million), “Clown in a Cornfield” ($1.33 million), “Kiki’s Delivery Service – Studio Ghibli Fest” ($1 million) and “Until Dawn” ($800,000).
This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at 105.6 million. The year-to-date total is $2.763 billion — up 15.2% from the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
