“The most FUN way to beat the heat is a night ride! Join the lit-up crew as we explore iconic locations and undiscovered neighborhoods in Pasadena under the stars!” declares the Pasadena Complete Streets Coalition, which is hosting its August Night Ride on Saturday, August 16.
The nocturnal adventure begins at 6:30 p.m. at Central Park’s north end near Dayton and Raymond, with the illuminated convoy rolling out precisely at 7 p.m.
Over the next two hours, riders will navigate approximately 10 to 12 miles through the city’s hidden corners and celebrated landmarks, conquering about 500 feet of elevation gain.
But this isn’t a casual sunset cruise. Organizers point out that night rides require genuine cycling experience and comfort with uphill climbs.
First-time group riders should consider the more welcoming Beginners’ Bagel Rides, with the next session scheduled for Sunday, September 21 at 9 a.m.
Safety regulations reflect the serious nature of urban night cycling.
Beyond mandatory helmets and liability waivers, California Vehicle Code §21201 requires riders to mount a white front light visible for 300 feet and a red rear reflector or light visible for 500 feet.
Children riding independently must stay with parents, demonstrate group riding experience, and maintain an average speed of 12 mph.
The evening culminates at Dog Haus Biergarten at 93 E. Green St., where the lit-up crew will trade their LED arrays for gourmet hot dogs, burgers and tater tots.
August Night Ride will run on Saturday, August 16 at 6:30 p.m. (meet) and 7 p.m. (roll). Central Park, 275 S Raymond Ave., in Pasadena. For more information, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/august-night-ride-2025-tickets-1553475409769 or contact info@pasadenacsc.or Ticket: Free
