It may be just around the corner or maybe a quick hop down Colorado or Lake, but your new staycation could be right over there in Old Pasadena.
The recent renovation of what’s now called the Courtyard Los Angeles Pasadena Old Town–completed at the beginning of 2024–involved a comprehensive top-to-bottom overhaul, resulting in a multimillion-dollar transformation, including a versatile pool area just perfect for cocktail receptions and social gatherings.
The design theme is inspired by Old Pasadena itself, according to Finance Manager Natalie Miller, who led us on a Monday afternoon tour.
“This design is basically blending Tudor and craftsman styles with mid-century elements,” she offered.

What was once a corporate everyplace business-traveler-oriented hotel has more of a boutique feel now, even though it features 314 rooms, including suites.
Courtyard Pasadena also offers amenities like free wi-fi, a full-service bar, a breakfast buffet, (which serves as the regular modest dinner/lunch spot but delivered a mean Mighty Mo Burger), a 24-hour fitness center with Peloton bikes, and nearly 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space, along with a grab-and-go market for the late night cravings.
Though the day was Pasadena summer hot, the pool was basically empty all afternoon long, save for a few tourists who quietly lounged poolside. What better invite would you need?
As Miller noted, the property, which has been a local staple for about 20 years, “aims to provide an elevated experience akin to a full-service hotel rather than a typical Courtyard setup.”
I can testify that we drifted away blissfully in our renovated king guest room, and woke to more breakfast than should be legal. We left the hotel after our one-day-cation, sated and relaxed, and honestly eager to return sometime soon.
