Hillsides, a Southern California mental health and foster care charity, has appointed Correnda Perkins, a licensed clinical social worker, as its division chief of Transition-Aged Services. In this position, Perkins supervises the Youth Moving On (YMO) program, which offers a continuum of support services for transition-aged youth 16 – 25 that includes a Peer Resource drop-in center, housing services, and workforce development. In her role, she is also responsible for identifying future funding opportunities and developing community relationships to build on the YMO programming.
“Our YMO program is a very vital program of Hillsides, and we are thrilled that Correnda will be at the helm of this dynamic program that serves hundreds of youth transitioning from foster care or probation to adulthood in our community,” said Joseph M. Costa, Hillsides president and chief executive officer. “This year we are facing some exciting changes at YMO, such as the completion of an expansion of our Peer Resource Center, and I can’t think of anyone more qualified to lead us through these developments.”
Perkins comes to YMO from eight years at St. Anne’s in Los Angeles, an agency addressing the needs of at-risk, pregnant and/or parenting young women, children and families, where she most recently served as the vice president of community-based programs. In this position, she oversaw the family-based and mental health services departments. She also managed and complied with public and private grant requirements for workforce development services and other areas. Perkins also previously served as the financial lead for the Los Angeles TAY Collaborative, which oversees a career readiness curriculum for transition-aged youth, where Collaborative leadership was responsible for budgeting, reporting, conducting presentations, and strategic planning.
Perkins holds has a master’s degree in social work from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in Spanish from University of Redlands. She is certified in parent-child Interaction therapy (PCIT) and Managing and Adapting Practices (MAP).
Hillsides Youth Moving On program provides mental health support and uses evidence-based practices to help youth with life skills, education, healthy relationships, support systems, self-advocacy, physical fitness, and proper nutrition so they can find lasting independence. YMO was founded in 2006 with the support from the Everychild Foundation.
